Frequently asked questions.
What should I look for in a therapist?
Finding a therapist is a personal process, and there are no set rules to follow. At a minimum, your therapist should have the appropriate training and credentials in the areas where you seek help, ensuring they practice within their scope of expertise. It's essential that they are ethical, non-judgmental, and create a safe space for you.
Beyond these basics, you can choose a therapist based on various factors that contribute to your comfort—such as age, gender, therapeutic approach, personality, and style, or even the ambiance of their office. Any element that helps you feel at ease is relevant in your decision-making process.
I understand that finding the right fit is crucial, and I’ll never be offended if you decide I’m not the best match for you, no matter where we are in our journey together. If that’s the case, I’ll do my best to provide referrals to someone who may better suit your needs. Your comfort and therapeutic success are my top priorities!

What is your availability?
I am currently accepting new clients both in person and remotely. I offer flexible scheduling throughout the week, including evening (after 5pm) appointments and weekends. You can review available times by accessing my schedule here. Note that not all my availability is visible on the online portal, so for the most accurate information, reach out or schedule a consultation.
How often should I go to therapy?
In therapy, session frequency can play a significant role in your progress, and while there’s no set rule, attending at least every other week is generally recommended for optimal results. When engaging in trauma treatment, it’s advised not to have more than a week between sessions, as continuity is crucial in that context. In some cases, multiple sessions per week may be beneficial, depending on the treatment and your individual needs.
Typically, I find that the most progress is made when clients attend weekly sessions for the first few months. This frequency allows us to build rapport and gain a deeper understanding of each other, which can set a strong foundation for your therapeutic journey. After that initial period, we can reassess your needs and adjust the frequency to best support your ongoing growth and healing. Your comfort and progress are at the heart of our work together!
What can I expect in my first session?
The first therapy session is a bit different from what you might expect in subsequent sessions. While later sessions will dive deeply into specific topics, our initial meeting will focus on a broad overview of various areas, such as your family of origin, goals, symptoms, previous therapy experiences, and any other relevant information. In short, it’s a lot of questions in a short amount of time. This approach helps us create a foundational understanding of your situation and develop a rough treatment plan so we can both feel aligned moving forward. Because this session can be a bit heavy on questions, I recommend giving therapy a few sessions to see if it’s a good fit.
How long does therapy usually last?
The length of time therapy takes can vary significantly from person to person and depends on several factors, including the severity of symptoms, individual needs, motivation, commitment to interventions, and specific goals. Each person’s journey is unique, and I’m here to work collaboratively with you to determine the appropriate length of services for your situation. Importantly, you have the freedom to end therapy whenever you choose, ensuring that you feel comfortable and in control of your process. Together, we’ll navigate your path toward healing and growth at a pace that feels right for you.
What if I need to cancel our appointment or I get sick?
The more notice you can provide me, the better, but I understand that life happens. I do have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy, so if you need to cancel for any reason, please give 24 hours notice to avoid paying the late cancellation fee, which is $80 and will automatically be charged at midnight of the missed session.
What if therapy isn't working?
If therapy isn’t working for you we will talk about it. If the solution is to find a therapist that is a better fit for you, then I will do everything I can to help you find that person and get you transferred to their practice.
